The role, as I see it

What a Technical SEO Specialist actually owns.

A Technical SEO Specialist owns the layer of search work that most marketers hand off to developers and most developers do not have time for. The unglamorous, decisive work.

In practice, that looks like:

  • Making sure crawlers reach important pages efficiently, and that wasted crawl gets spotted and fixed
  • Making sure rendered content matches what crawlers see, especially on JavaScript-heavy sites
  • Building structured data that works for classical Google features and AI Search citations alike
  • Watching server logs to understand crawl behaviour, not guessing from analytics dashboards
  • Keeping Core Web Vitals green, especially after deploys that introduce regressions
  • Catching the migration, redirect, and canonicalisation issues that quietly drain organic visibility

It is not strategy work. It is not content production. It is the technical foundation everything else sits on. Get it right, and the rest of the team can do their best work. Get it wrong, and the best content in the world cannot rank.

What I bring

01

Hands-on technical depth.

Four-plus years working in the weeds: schema implementation, render issues, crawl debugging, log file analysis, AI crawler management. Pattern recognition for the problems that come up most.

02

Already operating in AI Search.

llms.txt, AI crawler management, entity optimisation. I have been working on these since the standards started emerging. Most SEO teams are still catching up. I bring this work in-house ready to go.

03

Documentation is part of how I work.

I publish weekly at the Technical SEO Library. Internal audits, stakeholder reports, and team-wide documentation come naturally because I do the equivalent work on my own time.

04

Cross-stack adaptability.

WordPress, React, headless setups, Cloudflare, Vercel. The platforms vary, the fundamentals do not. I adapt quickly to your stack and ship from week one.

Crawl efficiency audit and render fix

Site was hiding 60% of programmatic landing pages behind client-side render. Diagnosed via Search Console and Screaming Frog rendering comparison, prioritised the fixes by traffic potential, worked with the engineering team to roll out server-side rendering on the highest-value templates.

Outcome

Indexed page count up 4x in one quarter, organic visibility followed.

Schema migration for AI Search citation

Editorial site had basic Article schema. Rewrote to richer Article + Author + Organization graph with proper sameAs entity links. Added explicit citation-friendly markup on long-form pieces.

Outcome

Citation appearances in ChatGPT and Perplexity went from rare to weekly within the tracking window.

Faceted navigation crawl budget recovery

Crawl budget was being burned on filter URL combinations producing near-duplicate pages. Mapped the crawl waste via log analysis, designed a robots and canonical strategy that preserved useful facet pages while collapsing the noise.

Outcome

Crawl waste cut by 78%, important product pages re-prioritised by Googlebot within weeks.

Where this role is heading

Why Technical SEO matters more, not less, as AI Search grows.

Classical SEO had one consumer of structured data: Googlebot. AI Search adds GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, CCBot, and a growing list of crawlers that read sites with different rules and produce different outputs.

Each one needs technical accommodation: schema that survives different parsers, llms.txt that declares intent, log analysis that distinguishes them from each other, crawl rules that allow the ones you want and block the ones you do not.

A team without a Technical SEO Specialist gets cited less, ranks less, and loses ground quarter after quarter as AI Search captures more search behaviour. A team with one builds a structural advantage that compounds.

This is the work I have been building for. Hiring me means hiring someone already operating in this new layer, not someone catching up to it.

Continuous learning

Confidence comes from competence.

So I completed every major SEO course in the field. Each one verifiable.

Recommendations

From people who have shipped work with me.

Victor took our crawl efficiency issues seriously and shipped fixes inside two weeks that previous consultants had told us would take months. The reporting was clear and the team trusted him from day one.

LM

Laura Mitchell

Head of Growth, B2B SaaS Platform

Working with Victor on our SSR rollout was rare. He understood our codebase, knew exactly what SEO needed, and translated between the two without friction. Most marketing people slow engineering down. He sped us up.

MT

Marcus Tate

Senior Engineer, SaaS Platform

We brought Victor in for a schema migration on our editorial platform. Six weeks later we were being cited in ChatGPT responses for the first time. Specific, technical, gets the work done.

RA

Rachel Adeyemi

Editorial Director, Content Publication

Victor publishes some of the clearest writing I have read on llms.txt and AI crawler management. I have sent his posts to clients more than once when explaining what is coming next in search.

TA

Tobi Adekunle

Common questions

Things hiring managers usually ask.

Four weeks notice from my current role. Available to begin within four weeks of an accepted offer.

No. I hold right to work in the United Kingdom. No sponsorship required, now or in future.

Open to all three. Currently based in the UK. Comfortable with travel for on-site days where the role requires it.

Both. Permanent is my preferred path for the next two-plus years. Open to contracts of six months or longer where the work is the right fit.

I write code where it helps. Schema markup, configuration files, small scripts, frontend tweaks. For deeper engineering work I partner with developers, but I do not need to be one to spec the work properly.

Yes. The recommendations above are a preview. Full references with direct contact details are available on request after an initial call.

Yes. A two-week paid sprint on a specific Technical SEO problem works well as a fit-test for both sides.
